I don't read it, but just had someone we spoke with comment they thought they were too tough on them. Maybe it's just a matter of biased people thinking things are biased? Don't see how this answers the OPs question.

Oh well! If there's to be no more construction on Skyvue, someone will come along, with the height it has reached, and turn it into a bungee jump!

The owner owes Silver State Industries (prison industries) somewhere north of $400K for steel work already completed.

Ferris Wheels...At least they're a step closer to obtaining the final goal: To turn an entire city block of the Strip into a theme park, itself - that would revolve every so often in style and theme, to befit the tourists...And it would be a ripe place for all those costumed folks on the Strip to hang, to boot.

Why no one's ever thought of this is beyond me. But Hey I guess we always need the Sahara to reopen...

They claim to have financing in place, but I have seen no hard evidence of that having been concretely done... only vague claims by the owners obviously with an incentive to try to spur interest in the project. I have seen very low debt ratings for the project (or in other words, investments in the project are rated to be extremely risky), so I suspect raising the necessary money to be quite a challenge. They claim it will open in 2014. I would be willing to wager that it won't even be open in 5 years.

Look at Lady Luck for example. It closed for renovations long ago with a schedule to reopen pretty quickly, supposedly people and the money were already in place, (sound familiar?), etc. Then the schedule was moved back... and again... and again... and again... Last I've heard they are now planning to open sometime in 2014.

Fountainbleau had executives in place, supposedly had money in place, got far along on the construction, but will not open in the foreseeable future as another prominent example of the need to believe a place will open when you see it open.

I would have agreed with you if you were talking the former biased editorial stance at the R-J. But since they canned the former publisher and editor, both of whom were over-the-top right-wingers, it's much more balanced now.

Agreed, but I'm glad someone is tackling the project. It's no skin off my rear either way, but I like to hear positive stories about our older properties. *keeps fingers crossed*

Fountainbleu was a cluster(you know) of an idea to begin with, but Carl Ichan is no dummy. We shall see what he does with it eventually. He's not in the business of losing money, so he saw some potential on the north end of the strip.

As for the poster that was speaking about the changes at the Review Journal- I also agree with you. Since they dumped Sherm and the Righthaven debacle, they have become a more reputable news source.

...two giant ferris wheels is excessive. Having said that, LV has always been a town of mind-boggling repetition.

There were once two riverboat-shaped resorts (although not both on the Strip). There's also been more than one casino named Castaways, Montecarlo, Bingo Club, MGM, El Rancho, Frontier, and the list goes on and on. My favorite thing to say to people when they speak of the Welcome to Las Vegas sign is, "Did you know there're three of them?" So, who knows.

The last time I looked at an R-J (fairly recently), the editoral pages were filled with op-ed pieces by Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin, Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity. The A-section was filled with stories about how Romney is "surging." And more stories about how a GOP senate will lower your taxes.

They may as well call it, "Fox News: The Print Edition." And then you have the Sun, which is basically "MSNBC: The Print Edition."

Neither one serves the community as well as a paper that at least tries to play it straight -- The Miami Herald is a good example of such a newspaper.
