Unfortunately OP you are the one being rude in this case if using the far left lane as a travel lane (carpool lane excluded)

It was worse in California though. Trying to merge onto the freeway in parts of SoCal was something else. Eventually I just started signalling and then employing the "ready or not, here I come." philosophy that so many drivers there seem to utilize.

Folks here are more rude than other places I have lived (which includes Texas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Idaho and Utah) so I just usually **** them off and hang in the left lane driving juuuuuuuust fast enough to keep up with the right hand lane where they cannot pass. Probably was me behind you. I purposely do this on occasion. Then when I pass, I get in front of the person driving in the wrong lane, then slow down about 5 miles slower than they were going.
