I am coming to Vegas for Christmas and am trying to find out what the best thing/place to go on Christmas Day would be from a local? and where you recommend to eat on Christmas day to? I have been a couple of times before but nothing quite like local knowledge hey! I hope you don't mind me asking?
Thanks

In the hinterlands of the world, if you talk to the locals, they want to visit the US and see LA, NYC, and Vegas. Haven't heard anyone mention Detroit or Cleveland yet. We have a viable product people want.

Las Vegas is gambling, fun, and entertainment. It is what it is. Millions visit and have a great time. They spend their vacation money and leave. They choose how to spend their money. They must be having a good time because they keep on coming back. That bodes well for the future of Las Vegas.

How about volunteering to serve meals at a local shelter? It's a great way to earn some good karma for the blackjack table later!

Ok, I see some peopl blamming the casino on....WHAT? There would be no Las Vegas without casinos. I love them. I love the fact I pay no income tax. I love the fact that our economy does not get affected like other US cities, when Americans don't com then other peoples from other nations do. The only problem I have is the heat. And some of the people who stick there nose in the air. Welcome to 2007, the moab does not run Vegas, and Vegas is becoming a very family oriantred town.

Hey, Las Vegas is a culinary delight - there are more great resturants here than almost anyplace on the face of the planet

A lot depends on your budget - and your tastes.

One recommendation I can make is the buffet at Bellagio and Paris. They will have the "traditional" fares, wonderfully done - and, they will have the "untraditional" fares as well. They are a little pricey but, worth it.

If you want a "sit down" type meal, and all this is assuming you are on the strip, try any of the resturants at the Venetian or Wynns -

I don't know if this helps -

Las Vegas exist for the tourist and gamblers first and foremost. But it should. Without it, Vegas would be another hole in the desert like Needles Ca. But I also agree that the city needs some diversification of industry and more services for the residents. It is not a small town full of people that sleep all day and work in hotels all night as it was in the 60s and it cannot be governed that way anymore.

It even extends its presence to all locations far off the strip that locals frequent, in the guise of slots, the crack of gambling. Is it really necessary for machines to be in every laundry and convenience store? Do off-strip casinos realy need to fleece locals of their hard earned cash, never mind all the tax benefits they will never see from the casinos themselves?
My point, again, is that the gaming industry runs this city implicitly and explicity, 100%.
This is to the direct loss of its residents of proper city services and benefits, that are never taxed due to these same corporations having the entire state legislature, Clark county commissioners, and the nevada gaming board in their back pocket.
You sound very bitter!

No one forces people to gamble in the casinos or a 7-11. They do it because they can, and have a few dollars to gamble with. Locals hope to win a Royal with the machine loaded, but we locals know this town wasn't built on winners.

I ate at Okada at the Wynn. Awesome food! expensive but worth it for a nice night out. I love the lagoon outsite too!

He is bitter. Life for some people just never seem to measure up to their standards. Sad but true. The IGGY function works great on here for some posters and is highly recommended
