Steak and eggs and beer? Are we mixing up the steak and eggs special with the sirloin steak dinner special? Not a given as I'm sure there are lots of people in Vegas who drink beer with eggs for breakfast.

In any case, if they raised the price on that steak and eggs special that much, I may never go in there again.

Edit: A quick trip to Yelpville indicates the steak and eggs is $6.99. An increase, but a tolerable one.

Its 9.99 now, but if you gamble $5 you get $2-off coupon.

I will continue to go there. Their food is good, service quick, great comps, in-house brewery, free cab ride if you're a club member, free beer some nights, etc.

I agree. I also like Tuscany for many of the same reasons (except for the brewery part). Village Pub also serves Ellis Island brews.

Yes, Tuscany also. I always win at their craps tables, I never go anywhere else except Strat for the no-craps craps.

The Plaza has it, too. I don't play Craps regularly, but when I do, it's always at the Plaza.

I haven't been to the Plaza since right after they renovated it four, five years ago. Is the smoke smell still permeating the casino floor?

My point being that all these games are little different than a coin flip. If people wouldn't put up with 90% pay out on a coin flip game (which is a respectable payout percentage for Las Vegas), why would they put up with any other casino game?

That's the part about gambling I simply cannot wrap my head around -- it's a bad deal for everyone except the house.

The one exception is betting on the coin flip for the Super Bowl -- that is the one and only time casinos will give an even money bet with true odds payout. So if I were a gambler, that's the only bet I'd ever make -- once per year, on Super Bowl Sunday.

Otherwise, win or lose, the gambler loses -- 100% loss on a loss, and 5-10% loss on a win. No amount of free stuff makes up for that.

NO, that smell has been replaced with INCREDIBLY strong deodorizer.. like, headache-inducing.

Scoop, brotha.. it's simply the price of entertainment. One goes to a movie. Pays admission. Watches the movie. One goes to a 51s baseball game. One pays admission and watches the game. Same with gambling. One pays to play a game. It has entertainment value for those of us who choose to be entertained in that manner.

Just because YOU don't choose to be entertained in that manner doesn't mean NO ONE should choose to be entertained in that manner.

I can't wrap my head around someone going out and spending $200 on a meal. You can't wrap your head around someone buying in to a blackjack table for $100. It is the SAME thing. You value the enjoyment of eating that meal, I value the entertainment I receive while playing the game.

I don't dispute that people find gambling entertaining. But I cannot wrap my head around why.

It makes absolutely no sense to me. If I wanted to, I could play any casino game here at my computer. I think that's a pointless waste of time. But I could.

I could also ask my wife to bring me my favorite draft beer while I'm playing computerized casino games. I could even ask her to wear something slinky while she's running beer across the room from the kegerator. I could furthermore give her $100 bills every once in awhile while drinking my free drinks and playing computerized casino games. To complete the experience, I could have random strangers blow cigarette smoke in my face. (Although if this happened inside the house, my wife would straight-up murder them for that.)

That is what I don't get about gambling. The paragraph above describes precisely what the gambling experience feels like to me. So while I get it that people enjoy this, it makes as much sense to me as cross-dressing or auto-erotic asphyxiation (two other activities that some people seem to enjoy that also make no sense to me).

So why would people do that to save a couple bucks on food? Or get a free turkey for Thanksgiving. At least if I buy a high-end meal or a high-end car or whatever, I know what I'm getting. Gambling for me is paying through the nose to be screwed over financially by people who smile at you, but in reality hate your guts.

Or to put it another way: "What I win, I keep. What you win, I keep."
