Manhattan is REALLY an expensive place to live...its almost a given that someone young starting out would share a place with someone to cut down their expenses...young professionals, artists ect.

Vegas is a cheap city to live in...its a city of vice that attracts a lot of people who don't have their act together.
Not suggesting they are the ONLY people it attracts but they seem to be the demographic most likely to

1. Not have friends who are willing to live with them.

2. Be in a financial situation that doesn't allow them to secure a legitimate lease in a complex.

3. Resort to Craigslist to look for a roomie.

Sorry, but its true.

Mostly nonsense. We continually deal with newcomers and finding them homes. We generally work up market...300K to 500K but we take what comes along. Many, though not all, of our clientele is retiree and older. It is very rare to see anyone who is motivated by vice. It is the standard story. The presence of vice adds spice to living in Las Vegas.

The only common vice we come across is gambling too much. And that is a very small part of the population. And even there most of the gamblers we run into are budgeted. We may think they are too into it but they lose their $500 and quit for the week.

Vice does exist of course...but it is primarily the visitor and the locals who serve the visitor who get into that scene. And some of it is clearly a lucrative business. The club scene is loaded with people spending and others collecting large amounts of money via mechanisms that are not entirely legal. But you know I don't get all upset at an escort banging her way to a reasonable living.

Why do they come? Well our clientele tends to be retirees from the east or CA retiring. They come for the weather and the cheap housing and the relatively low cost of living. They appreciate the attractions but are not going to actually use them very much.

And escorts and dancers and such have a regular subculture that provides services. Many own homes and rent rooms to others. There are a couple of houses I have shown where the pool beat the hell out of a strip joint. Or park outside the athletic club at Rainbow and Cheyenne. In a morning hour you will see more well bodied females than an entire evening on the strip. These ladies are the not getting wealthy dancers keeping their bodies in the shape needed to work in the entertainment complex.

So expect pretty much an inexpensive southwestern suburb. You won't be disappointed.

I agree, HOWEVER, are the the folks you mention the same people seeking roommates on CL? I think not, and that was the only point I was trying to make.

And yes, upstanding people CAN and DO fall on hard times for reasons beyond their control and might at some point need a roommate however sorting through the others in search of someone decent isn't worth it ( unless you must) to save a few hundred bucks a month on living expenses. If you already know someone you want to split expenses with that's an entirely different story.

I hope you mean "vow renewal" and not "vowel". Wouldn't want the consonants to be left out.

If you're looking for a roommate situation and don't want someone sketchy try looking on the University's student resources section for off campus housing. Students looking for roommates will post ads there, and sometimes you can find profs renting a place for a deal, or locals renting a room out.
