I recently switched to COX. I started out with the 150 Mbps service but I was not able to get over 25 Mbps wireless so when the COX tech (awesome Joe) came out he spend time cleaning up the install the first guy did and then spend time troubleshooting. We found that wired we were able to get over 150 Mbps but wireless was not good. We tried switching the router to several different channels and found one that was better but still not good. Joe recommended that we downgrade our service to 25 Mbps and that by 8/1 it would be automatically doubled. When wired we do get 50 Meg or higher. Still not good wireless.

Moral of my story is that the speed that they advertise is when you are wired. They can not guarantee any specific speed especially wireless.

I am leasing the new dual router/modem from COX until find a replacement so it is not outdated equipment. (I have looked and I get very confused on what would be best for a home office with at least 10 devices and Roku.) I also have to connect my work computer to a VPN which drops the Mbps in half. If I would have known wireless was going to have issues I would have hand them drop the cable line into my office. I have enough stuff in here so I had them run it to the spare bedroom across the hall from the office.

Does anyone have any suggestions/recommendations on how to increase wireless speeds?
Anyone want to share a link to a recommended router/modem on Amazon?

Thanks all,
Kim

ASUS RT-AC66U Dual-Band Wireless-AC1750 Gigabit Router https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008ABOJKS..._qfJ6tb01BBTE5

I got 150 Mbps consistently over wireless with this. It is a dual band router and I run two different network names; one for G Wi-Fi devices and one for N + AC devices. Everything on the G network tops out around 50 Mbps for me, .

G penetrates walls better than N and AC, but I can connect to the N + AC Wi-Fi throughout my entire 4000 sq ft house.

Know that G only Wi-Fi devices can't connect at the faster speeds. Also note that if you set it up like I did all your devices are still able to see and share on the network regardless of which if the two networks they are on.

Get a better router and/or wifi receiver. When you're testing speeds for the first time, it should be done with a direct connection to the modem.

this worked for me. for some reason the wife had an apple airport extreme router (1-gigabit), swapping that in for the existing router helped wifi speeds tremendously. i'm sure any gigabit capacity router would do the same

the free double speed upgrade more than doubled my download speed. I can now get 7 megabytes / second, so a 1 gig file takes about 2.5 minutes, which is insanely fast!

I don't like wireless connections. Try to go wired if it's possible, it removes any potential problems.

I'm on Premier now, consistently testing above 100Mbps. AC and N wireless devices have zero issues with these speeds.

I pretty well pinned my problem down to my old processor. Ran wifes new machine and she is getting the low 100s down about 20 up. That is wireless. I am using a Cisco DPQ3212 fresh arrived from Cox and a ASUS N660U very similar to Danknee's.

So after ten years the poor old machine is running out of gas. I will make a quick try at Windows 7 but that is it...

I use cox and IF you get a decent modem they aren't bad but I am a Gamer and despite their speed I find on a lot of Multiplayer games they are Loaded with LAG But that is not their fault it is the cheap junk modems they give you .. Usually after about 4 or 5 swaps I finally get a good one after each move I have made.
