Had a NY cut 16 oz steak at a NW steak house Friday night.

About an inch thick (Why I did not order a 12 oz which is more than I can comfortable eat...Take some to the dog and like the way the steak cooks). Cooked rare...close but not really rare.

Cut into it and discovered trouble. Pretty quickly determined in cut badly. Lots of stuff other than flesh.

Yes I could have simply rejected it. But the Admiral and I were having a very nice evening. And no matter how you do it you always break the string...and there goes the evening.

Segregated a piece. Absolutely wonderful. As tasty a piece of meat as you ever get.

But the bad part. 2/3 was not chewable by a human. The meat you could get at was still wonderful. But you could only get to some of it.

The thing that interests me is why it tasted so good. A connection between the gunk and taste? Or simply the wrong piece out of a good chunk of cow. Maybe Scoop knows - this is his area.

The house bought the steak by the way. Our regular waitress who noted the huge pile of uneaten pieces asked why and was told. The house then took it off the bill.

Strange outcome. Satiated but feeling guilty for not paying for at least part of it. Tipped well.

Ya win a few, ya lose a few. One reason I almost never order steak. But your dog shudda lucked out. Maybe the cow was involved in an autoped accident in her younger years.

I only like medium well steak. I know chefs will say it should be rare, but I refuse to eat a bloody piece of meat.

Throw it on the grill, flip it over, put it on my plate. Just enough so the center isn't cold.
I've never eaten an expensive steak from a restaurant though.

When I take out my choice of princesses out for the evening I always say "well done" when ordering a steak. I usually get my way, but there are occasions where it comes back rare. I don't like Sushi, so I don't want blood oozing out of my steak either.

This human has progressed and discovered fire!

Of course, my belle prefers her steak rare and she gets it rare!

It's a natural product, so consistency can't be guaranteed.

I would think the restaurant butcher and/or the grill/broiler cook could spot a loser piece of meat before it goes out to the dining room.

I would have complained. When you pay big bucks for a really nice steak, it should be edible! But in the end, it worked out for you and the dog!

I had a big box of good leftovers for my dogs the other night and somehow arrived home without it... And I wasn't drinking either.
