I have family coming into town today. They are staying at the Golden Nugget-downtown. I heard there is a $2 fee to park after 3 hours. If Im gambling there will they waive the $2 per hour charge? Its not the money but the principal of it. I sure can afford to pay it... just hard to believe they charge it. Thanks for any help fellow Las Vegans! ( is that the right term to use?) lol

You have to have a players card and gamble a certain amount of points before they validate your parking. It's a real hassle now.

This. And everywhere else. All the griping about parking charges when there are free valets EVERYWHERE.

of course "free valets" aren't really "free", since you are expected to tip for the service of allowing someone park and retrieve your car.

Exactly. Odd that people would rather A. pay to park, B. gamble enough to validate, or C. pay a couple bucks to a valet. And seriously.. people in threads are posting that they will stop going to a place because it's going to cost them a couple bucks. Maybe I'm in a different reality, but it's a COUPLE BUCKS.. it's a cup of coffee, a McDonalds hamburger.. it's not the end of the world. If you don't have a couple bucks, you might want to rethink your existence.

I met a client at Golden Nugget for dinner at Chart House and self parked. I got the ticket validated. We stayed and gambled and left 8 hours after I parked. They still charged me $12 with validation.

Best deal for downtown parking is the surface lot at Main Street Station. It is $3 on weekdays and $5 on weekends. They say it is a 24 hour time limit but I don't think it is enforced.

I get the "it's just a couple bucks, what's the big deal" part. It is just a couple bucks...chicken feed, and I know I probably blew way more than that on the drive to wherever it is. But, "I" just don't like to pay for parking. Doesn't matter if it's at a casino, or somewhere else. To me, it is a blatant rip off, and sends a message to me, the customer, that the establishment will likely nickel and dime me on every little thing.

I know it costs money to maintain the parking structure. So what..it's a business expense, include it in the price of your goods/services. They haven't started charging an "air conditioning fee", or a "roof repair subsidy" have they? Those are the same exact things to me, just a cost of doing business.

We all have our personal quirks, and this is one of mine that I just can't shake. I do find charging for parking a big disincentive to going to certain places. And since a casino is not somewhere I "have" to go, I'm not sure why they would want to give me an excuse to stay away...

I agree with Raiderman. Since the entire point to going to a casino is to spend money -- what's a couple bucks to get to whatever it is you're going to go blow money on?

I would prefer it if everyone woke up from their collective zombie status, decided that casinos are a pointless waste of time, and then dismantled them all to make room for something useful. But since that isn't happening anytime soon, what's a couple bucks when you've already spent plenty for the show tickets? (Or a meal. Or tossing money at a croupier. Or whatever.)
