Just wondering what the process is. I'm thinking of buying a classic, no idea where from yet, but likely out of state. Then either shipping or driving it to Vegas, and leaving in the garage while I decide what to do with it. Undriven, etc.

I know nothing at all about cars, plates, tax, title, states etc in the US when it comes to cars, or any of the steps needed to comply with the rules!

It still has to be plated and insured if you intend to use it at all

My husband has a classic car and as far as insurance goes, it can be done differently than your everyday driver. He determines the value and pays premiums based on that. There ism also a limit on how miles you can put on it

You don't have to have to pass smog if you have Classic Car plates on it in NV.

That is all I know. If no one else chimes in, I will ask him and post again.

I don't. Won't even be in the country.

You don't need to register it if you're not going to operate it. The moment the wheels hit Nevada roads you are responsible to register/insure it though.

You can put it on a flatbed and drive it to a garage without insurance or registration. Anything else and you're taking chances.

When I buy a classic I have it delivered - then I'm not liable for the road trip. And, you don't have to insure or register it. The high end companies selling classics include delivery in the deal. I bought my last car in August from Vroom in Texas - and they delivered it. Vroom also will let you send the car back if it does not meet specs or your approval - at no charge. The icing on the cake is they'll pick up your trade as part of the deal. Spec an enclosed delivery if you want that.

If the storage is seasonal, I change out the fluids and put a battery maintainer on the car.

If the storage is long-term (1 year +) I change out the fluids, put Stabil in the fuel tank, block the suspension and either take the battery out or put it on a maintainer.

Taking delivery at Casa Ute

Bill

I forgot to add: Run the numbers and make sure they match (engine/body/frame). If a collector owned the car it might have a build sheet.

Ok, if I'm buying a car from CA do I have to tell them that the car is no longer anything to do with that state anymore? Or can I just stick it in the garage with ca plates and worry about sticking it on NV plates once I'm going to start driving it?

Will not having a NV driving license cause me problems too?
