Hey, I'm looking for a place to live for a year or so before going back to school, and I'm considering Las Vegas. The only issue is that I don't plan on having a car. I know there is public transportation, but is it really possible to live in Vegas without a car? Are the buses reliable? Do they go everywhere I would probably need to go? Any info would be appreciated

I've never had to use public transportation in Las Vegas, but based on the layout of the city, I think you definitely need a car to live there.

I would not recommend living here without a car.

You have to plan for it. But it is doable. Find your job than a house that is compatible. Charleston, Sahara, Flamingo all work. Can also live south off LVBlvd. and work on the south strip.

Not easy but lots of people do it. At least for a year.

Here's the RTC website (broken link)

Check out all the routes and times. You can also attach your bike to the bus which is sometimes much quicker than making a transfer. I did it for about 2 years, and it wasn't easy, but it's good for your body and the environment.

You can live here without a car, just like anywhere else. But you will be limited at where you can live if you want access to many bus lines. Get a place in Spring Valley, East side, or Central LV and you won't have a problem.
If you want to live on the outer edges of the valley, you need a car, since the bus does not go out to the newer area's, and it will be many more years before it ever does, if it does.

I think you definitely need a car...if you live somewhere close enough to walk to the strip (where most employment is) then it is normally a bad area....The buses do go "everywhere" but they are never on time and they cost a lot of people their jobs.
good luck

It would not be a practical choice. The bus system really isn't super-reliable and no, they don't by any means go everywhere you would probably need to go. For that kind of public transportation, I'd like to recommend either Chicago or New York City.
