Hey Im thinking to move to Vegas by next year. So I try to do a little research about it. I have never been there. So I have no clue what to expect.

Which are the best and affordable neighborhoods to live at??? Im lookin for something not to far away from downtown Vegas??? Where all the fun is, the hotels, the strip clubs and the nightlife in general. I dont have a car. So is it easy to reach places within walking distance???

thanks!

well, you could live off of West Tropicana which is close to some strip clubs and casinos, like the Palms and pretty close to the Strip, but not so much to Downtown...

You have the standard newby problem. "Best" and "affordable" are generally opposite ends of the spectrum. The "best" here is very nice, safe and livable...it also costs an arm and a leg. For a mere 5 million or so we can isolate you in the lap of luxury and free of any fear. For $200 a month we can get you a flop near the Blue Angel that may or may not have a lock that works to an alley where people regularly get cut in disputes over meth.

So maybe you need to quantify your needs a little better?

OK a nice new renovated apt. for let's say $2000 a month? I heard that rent is pretty cheap in Vegas. And the area should be safe and close to where the fun is, meaning the casinos, stripclubs, hotels etc.

You're moving here, yet have never been here?

Best suggestion is for you to take a mini Vegas vacation and instead of "vacationing" like a tourist, seriously look at the areas (and not just the immediate Strip corridor) and see what it's like here. Rent a car and drive away from the Strip/tourist areas and you'll find neighborhoods. Get rent quotes for places you seem to like, ask questions of people who already live there...

Doing research also means visiting the place you want to call home, first, before moving there.

Much good luck to you...

The Blue Angel costs about $200/week. More of a temporary living situation, but I think cap'n was mostly joking anyway.

And for $2000/month, you could rent a loft at Soho.

Much more reasonable would be a Huntridge cottage for about $1200/month, close to everything.

I agree that visiting with the focus on scouting neighborhoods would be well worth the money and time.

WHY oh WHY would ANYONE decide to move to Las Vegas if they have NEVER been here?????

To quote the Sheriff [Loosely] I am one of Las Vegas' BIGGEST cheerleaders.

BUT I ain't confused....it is NOT always an easy town to live in. Try it in August when it's 117 degrees in the shade and the monsoons drive the humidity up to 20%......

Try it when the lure of the casinos get ya and you find that "8 the hard way" doesnt ALWAYS come in.

That makes sense. Believe it or not but I had that in mind.

Thx for your tips.
