Will FINALLY be heading west from New Jersey in about a month and was thinking of opening a small business in the Summerlin area. Was considering a cigar store and lounge, storage facility or dog grooming and boarding.....any idea's about whats needed in the area or if any of these would work? Thanks!!!!

Well, there's a self-storage facility on every major road where they're allowed, so there's obviously a need, but I'd think there's plenty of competition there already unless you've got something new/innovative to offer. The dog grooming/boarding would be tough "in" Summerlin, since the noise from the dogs would likely be an issue if you created an outdoor area for them to exercise/hang out. Cigar store/lounge? Could work, or could go bust if you don't offer the right prices/selection- pretty hit or miss I'd say.

The key to any of them would likely be whether you've got the experience to make them successful- none of those are necessarily "if I open it, they will come" home runs.

If you are looking to open a business, just any business, without any particular area of concentration, I would look into buying an existing business. Check with local business brokers to see what is for sale.

Not trying to be rude, but if you're relying on this business for your income shouldn't you have these details planned out before you move? Perhaps you already wealthy or employed and just doing this as a side project?

Some things that may be successful:

-Hookah lounge (they're fairly big out here; a new joint on the west side would attract plenty of attention, especially as most are downtown)
-Doggy daycare (boarding places are always booked up, so more would be great...there are areas of Summerlin that would be good for this)
-An ice cream or frozen yogurt parlor (Summerlin folks love the no-name ice cream shops; they get significantly more customers than the giant chains)
-Candy store (we really don't have any old-fashion candy shops...we have fancy big-name chocolate brands, but nothing fun for kids)

Default Wow....some really helpful thoughts......

Especially Radraja....thanks for the responses.....I will consider my options and invite ALL on the board to my Grand Opening!!!! An old-fashioned anything is usually exciting to visit.....maybe an ice cream parlor and candy shoppe would be fun....Thanks again!!!

I had no idea either. Here is a link to a horribly unreliable source (but the info seems reasonable in this case)...
