I would prefer a gated community but it's not a deal breaker if I found the right house. I am a little concerned about renters but I don't know what you can do about that. There really is no way to tell. When I look at real estate listings they don't always say if the house in a gated community and it would be nice if there was an easier way to see that.

Silverado Ranch did seem like a nice place the times I've driven through there. So was Anthem, but as someone said, getting to/from some of the neighborhoods is a little bit of a drive. Still, if it was the right house I could deal with that. I would like to stay in the general vicinity of Eastern and St. Rose Pkwy. or somewhere around there if we could.

Do any of the following appeal to you?

Personally, I like Madeira Canyon area. As noted, it is an extra 10-15 mins. A quick look on Zillow and you'll find, for example,

3034 Hickory Valley Rd, Henderson, NV 89052 | MLS #1619637 | Zillow

Also nice, and closer, is

3018 Panorama Ridge Dr, Henderson, NV 89052 | MLS #1627952 | Zillow

2482 Lower Meadows Ave, Henderson, NV 89052 | MLS #1628650 | Zillow

and here's a fixer-upper (at least that's what I infer from the description)

1326 Tempo St, Henderson, NV 89052 | MLS #1630499 | Zillow

Thanks for the help! I like the first house the most, it seems to have everything that I'm looking for. I'm not sure about the fixer-upper though, it would depend on how much updating it needs. I think I'll look more in the Madeira Canyon area as you've mentioned, it looks like a reasonable commute for me.

I have lived in Silverado Ranch on and off for the past 15 years. It has really changed after the crash. There are still some beautiful developments and I would live there again, but I see the area as a whole really starting to go downhill. It does have a lot of great shopping and restaurants and close to the freeway and Strip.

More than one car in front of one house = multiple families = poverty; or hoarders.

I've known a lot of people who use their garages for keeping stuff not cars. I would think this would be even more so in Vegas, where the geology makes basements non-viable in most cases.

as the wife of a mechanic, i always find this type of behavior odd. if you have THAT much stuff (non car stuff) that you need to store it in the garage.....either you need a bigger house or you need less stuff.

garages are for all-things-cars in my world

Actually Silverado (89123) exceeded all the good areas of Henderson except 89074 (older Green Valley) for appreciation in 2015. That would not be compatible with a decaying area.

To OP - gated and guard gated are standard fields in the MLS form and are virtually always done correctly. So any RE Agent can tell you precisely what is gated and how.
