Uber et al, don't work on cash, so, unlike cabs, you're much less of a robbery target. And I know Uber, and I would assume Lyft and the others have a toss your cookies clean up fee for customers who do so. So while cleanup would be unpleasant, at least you'd get paid for it.

I'm almost surprised the services don't require this.

You can already write off business expenses with a schedule C (?). You definitely want to depreciate the vehicle and get the full tax deductions that you can.
I believe you have to get a business license to be a driver.

There are certain times of night/weekend that Uber has surge pricing where you can make much more per hour.

Just saw a commercial for Uber drivers. If you 're a night owl and live near a college town / busy city, I'd imagine you could make a decent income but that often depends on the driver's personality. I would also think how readily available the driver made him/herself to those in need of a ride.

You have to get a business license to drive for uber/lyft. I'm currently waiting for my background check to come back.

Construction is lacking right now. It's either this or cab. At least my steering wheel won't leave my hands black like a cab.

Hertz has a rental program specifically for uber/lyft. I'm going to rent something and try it out before I commit to buying a new vehicle.

I have 620 bucks into the car I am driving now and my insurance is half what it was. Pretty pleased with that. But 1500 a week from lyft is enough to make me buy a new car. Will be a Dodge Caravan if I do.
