The person who lives next to me apparently purchased a large travel trailer. He put it next to my wall, blocking my view of the sky, sun, etc. By checking the model I determined that it is too large per Henderson Code as it is over 25 feet. My husband says the man is crazy and if we report him to code enforcement, it will cause a lot of trouble and that we should try and move. We own our home and it would be a hardship to sell and move at this time. I am thinking of moving in the next year and feel this travel trailer will make it hard to sell our home.

In addition, the same person dumped motor oil on my new sod after I saw him changing his oil and asked him to be careful. The driveway he is using is illegal - he has another driveway on the other side of his home.

Does anyone think it would be wrong to contact code enforcement and my HOA?

Thank you.

Allie

Allie sounds like you're living next to a inconsiderate jerk. The HOA is there to protect your investment so I would call them tomorrow morning. The HOA's actions would dictate whether I would call Henderson Code Enforcement.

Don't get trampled on.

Where in the Henderson code does it say a 25 foot RV is maximum? That seems fairly small to have written as a maximum.

Is he parking it on the street, in his driveway, or on the side of his house?

You may have one travel trailer unit on the home premises of its owner when not used for living or sleeping purposes provided that said trailer shall not be connected with or served by any electric, gas, or water facilities and cannot be longer than twenty-five feet. This vehicle will have to be properly registered. It is unlawful for any person to use or cause or permit to be used for occupancy only any recreational vehicle, travel trailer unit, mobile camper, mobile home, motor home or truck mounted camper unit or other similar structure.

He is parking on the side of his house, about 4-6 inches from my wall.

I know I am the crazy one here but have you spoken to him NICELY about it?
You may be surprised, he may not know you even care....

Seems the simple solution would be to admire his spiffy new trailer and tell him how much you would like to buy it ....much cheaper than moving

Hell offer to pay for him to store it if it bothers you that much

He will not speak to me, I tried. This morning he was out at 5:45 a.m. running engines on his ATV right next to my house. Remember this is a man who dumps motor oil in his own yard.

Go to code enforcement. Henderson is known to push that. It will be much more effective than an HOA who will temporize and diddle mostly.

Thank you; I sent in a report this morning. The HOA had no opinion and said it was up to code enforcement.

Check your CC&R's many say trailers can't be visible from street. (Not that they will do anything about it)

I would also suspect there may be a set back violation. Normally there is a requirement that a few feet - often 5 from the property line must not be occupied by anything and, depending on how the rule is written, may include parking an item there for long periods.
