I just got an e-mail from Cox that if you go over 1 TB of data in a month they will charge you $10 for an additional 50 GB. We really need an alternative.

Same here. Will see how things work out. I would like to see someone compete with them.

1 TB a month of data is very generous. If you use anywhere near that, something is wrong. I have looked over our account, and with a household of 4 we average around 150 gb per month, and never have gone over 200 gb. We would have to increase our usage over 6 times to come anywhere close to the limit. You could always go to Century Link and deal with 3-5 day outages which has happened to many people this month.

It's really not the point that it's a generous amount. I will never come close to going over. It's more about the fact they can just change their offerings overnight and tell you if you go over you're paying more and there is no real alternative.

Maybe one day, some enterprising young Lawyer or State Attorney General will start some kind of class action suit against them and prevail. Maybe this will be the catalyst. Remember Ma Bell Telephone System, "We don't care we don't have to". They finally got broke up. Maybe someday that will happen to the Cable Company. But I'm not holding my breath.

Don't hold your breath. The erra during which Ma Bell was broken up was an entirely different time. Today, corporations own the country.

Wouldn't it actually be that businesses are using residential services?

A streamed HD movie "uses" 3GB per hour.

1000 Gb = 1 Tb

If you watch movies everyday for a month, 24 hours, you'd use 2.2 Tb's and have a serious need for a life.

I found this out in March when I noticed it on my bill. You can check your daily useage, and monthly useage.

1 TB is alot for now, but add some security cameras that host video on the web and you could blow through that limit.
