Trucks are very practical because they can haul pretty much anything and you can also use it like an SUV. I know I cannot live without my truck because of the type of work that I do. They also seem to hold their value pretty well even with high mileage.

I've owned a pickup since 1984. I have never used a truck for business, I just enjoy driving them and they have come in very handy on countless occasions. I can drive through flooded streets, I can see traffic ahead of me, I can drive off road, I can haul items like furniture, rocks etc., I had a camper on my truck for weekend adventures, I've moved using my truck (when I owned a more manageable number of posessions), they are easier to work on since they have ground clearance underneath. Trucks are designed to haul and tow so drivetrains are generally more robust in design.

Pickups are just a cultural thing for a lot of people. I can see the utility, but your dragging around a lot of steel you don't need most of the time.

While this likely would fall on deaf ears, I think many in Clark County would benefit from reading the following blog post regarding pickup trucks: What Does Your Work Truck Say About You?.

You must be joking. I know a lot of baby boomers who could benefit from reading that blog and learning something about financial responsibility, which seems to be in short supply in the Las Vegas metropolitan area. I am highly confident the statistics back me up on that point as well.

OP, Las Vegas has a lot of working class and blue collar population. Only 25% of the local population has a college degree or higher. It's on the C-D stats for this city. You can see the demographic makeup.

Plus trucks help to move stuff around and there is lots of that happening in the rental market each summer.

No offense for the pride of those pick-up drivers, just curious why they are so popular.

Utility and personal preference. Aside from fuel consumption pickups are quite practical at least in cities with plenty of off street parking.

Many pickups in the US have trim levels available that rival that of luxury sedans with the bonus of offering a commanding driving position.

Many people use them to tow their boats ect as well.

Pickups just offer alot of flexibility.
