I checked the NV DMV site. It says we have 30
Days to transfer driver license to
NV from out of state.

Do we take the Vision test when we register
The auto? Just a valid license & vision test necessary?

Or are they ( license & registration) 2 separate
Things?

Thanks.

Car registration and driver licenses are two separate things. You take a vision test with the driver license. You need a smog check for the car registration. You have 30 days to get both. On day 31 you will turn into a puff of smoke.

I never found the vision test to be difficult until the last time I renewed. Then they put on my license"needs glasses". recently I had eye surgery and no longer need glasses, but I keep forgetting to go have the statement removed from my license. I'm not worried. It's not a criminal offense.

Great.
At local DMV take vision. Used to be no worry
But my vision had been changing. Wierd.

Do we take written tests in NV?
In CA you need the regist& smog, vision &
Written test, which I found a little tricky.

White smoke or black smoke (given this week's papal developments)?

Hope that's a joke.

Did call DMV. You need a certified birth certificate.
I think I have one but wanted post it. Guess I haven't
Moved out of state enough - don't think I needed one from
MN To Cali.

vision WILL disqualify you... fo sho.
my mother tried to get her NDL and could not because she could not pass the nevada vision test despite having a valid california license. One eye is within specifications, the other is not.

I just went through this. All the information you need is in here: Nevada DMV New Resident Guide

I did the following:
get insurance for my car - insurance companh must be NV certified if you are bringing in your car from out of state
get smog test
get vin inspection (new from July 2012), this you can do at the Decatur DMV, small structure before the main building. Just follow the signs.
apply for car registration at dmv
change title at DMV (optional but I prefer to get it in case I decide to sell)
transfer out of state DL to NV DL. Requires eye test.

You'll find all required documents to bring with you in that site, proof of ID etc. If registering out of state car, bring tools to remove your plates if a plain flat head screw (which is what they provide) will not work for your car. I needed a hex screw driver. They will require you to surrender old plates. In return they will give you a document certifying old plates were surrendered. In case you need to present proof of it. I needed that because NY requires you to surrender as soon as you cancel your insurance or I get a fine for driving without an insurance.
