Hi! I’m moving to Las Vegas in the next couple of weeks and I am super exited about pretty much everything...except the scorpions. I have read horror stories about how these little demons will just crawl in bed with you at night and nest in shoes and hang out in kitchen cabinets just waiting to strike. While I am certain there is a level of dramatics in my readings, I’m wondering though if this is something that I should honestly prepare and proof my house against. I have read that they are not able to climb on flat surfaces so I am wondering if I should go as far as surrounding the walls of my apartment with a 3 inch high sheet of plexiglass to keep them from climbing on the walls. Should I cover my bed with something from the ceiling to ensure they don’t suicude bomb me at night? Any advice is welcome, even if you tell me I am being crazy.

That was my biggest fear moving here. We've been here almost 3 years and have not seen one. The only thing we have seen in our house has been the big field roaches. As soon as it gets hot they want your air conditioning. We saw 2 and it freaked me out to no end!!!! Bought Cy-Kick CS Pest Control Insecticide and a pump sprayer from Amazon. It works for roaches and scorpions. He sprays the perimeter of the outside monthly and we haven't seen anything since.

I have spent time in Las Vegas since the 1970's and have lived here since 2008. I have never seen a scorpion here. The only ones I have ever seen were in Texas.

I have lived in this valley for over 19 years and not once have I ever seen a scorpion. Just those icky giant field roaches that want to come in, in the summer months. Either do a do-it-yourself spray like irisheyzs does, or do like we do: Hire a pest control company to spray once a month through the summer. There are so many pest control companies here. Big business. And before you spray around the outside of your apartment, check with the management office to see if that is included in their monthly outside maintenance.

I have spent a lifetime in Las Vegas and actually I have seen some. Only once, though. A family member asked for help exterminating them and I decided to come over and take a look. That night we used black lights and counted 5 of them in the backyard. They were small, black colored. This was in the northern area of town, near Aliante Casino. I have never seen them before that or afterward.

Point is, OP, you likely will never encounter a scorpion here.

Used to live near Spring Valley Hospital. The shrubs around that hospital house 1 black widow per shrub. I killed about 100 scorpions in and near my house while living there for about 3 years. Neighborhood also had lots of cats, but they weren't eating the scorpions. If you have scorpions, all of your neighbors must also take measures to eradicate.

Current house, no scorpions ever sighted, no black widows.

Scorpions can't really kill humans, but they can kill your pets.

I've lived here for going on 10 years and never seen a scorpion or a black widow. And I've never had pest control spraying either.

They exist. But rare and very local. And not a big deal even if present.

In general they will not penetrate a reasonably tight house. If you have them around they can be handled by spraying and hunting with a black light and a club.

In looking at a few thousand homes over the last decades we have come across scorpions a half dozen times and only one actually had a significant infestation.

Bigger threat are the Two-legged Scorpions. All over the valley and highly mobile.
