Clark County Education Association members voted to authorize a strike for the 2019-2020 school year if the Clark County School District carries out threats of budget cuts due to lack of funding from the State during the current Legislative Session. According to the CCEA, over 5,000 teachers participated and voted by a 78% margin to authorize a strike.

I support them, it's the only way to get lawmakers attention. Why do professional athletes get paid so much, but we can't pay our teachers a really good wage? And I'd say their jobs are much more important than professional athletes.

For every professional athlete there are 10,000 college graduates who could teach any high school class.

I hope the teachers do strike. Only way Sisolak and the Dems will get off their ass and properly fund education in Southern Nevada.

I fully agree with the latter part of your statement. The first part has no bearing. Very few people in the world can be professional athletes. It's supply and demand.

I hope they do strike if they don't get some concessions.

Well for starters they failed to teach you about value.

A sportsball star gets paid millions because sportsball brings in billions.
Teachers don't bring in anything. They're lucky they have a job at all. If not for the general public agreeing that we need education they wouldn't.

From what I found the average teacher here makes $66k including benefits, or $49.92/hr. How much do they want?

180 days x 40 hours = 1440
66,000/1440= 41.6

Still pretty good money to work 36 out of 52 weeks a year.

Not sure how you're calculating that hourly rate. They do have high benefits costs, primarily due to their pension, but plenty of rank and file police officers are making 150k+ including benefits. Not sure I can connect that kind of pay disparity.

66k with benefits is probably 45k in actual salary. I guess they should be happy they get health insurance?
