Wow Panorama was the one I was thinking most about too! That and Sky seemed the most affordable way back in 2010 when I was looking.

I agree though, many condos are rough with storage space but I didn’t have too many issues being able to fit what I wanted. I’ve seen some modern homes that are oddly short of storage. My neighbors house, nearly the same floor plan but slightly altered, in Beaverton didn’t even have a downstairs coat closet! Or any closet. My neighbor said she kept her broom behind the couch, no joke, she didn’t know where else to put it haha. That’s absurd for a house that’s 2,800 square feet. All due respect to my last builder (which is none), I’m surprised their architect made it through college as their build quality and general housing was a total joke. I put a lot of money into upgrading the place and made it nice, as much as I could, but it has been a different experience working with a luxury build quality versus “slap it together with duct tape” quality.

I’m surprised to see someone say downtown Summerlin is walkable. Yikes, I guess? Better be in good shape. I walked it myself when we spent about 3 hours down there, it was forever between blocks and between things. I didn’t enjoy the walk in early September let’s just put it that way. Wasn’t a fan. I really liked the area, it seemed very nice, loved seeing City National, but I think “bikeable” is more accurate than walkable.

Not to hijack this thread, but it is very relevant to what my wife and I have been discussing for almost a year now . . . both of us love Vegas and have spent quite a bit of time there, both on the Strip and Downtown, as well as with friends from college living in Henderson (Green Valley) and Summerlin. We are currently on the East coast and have been looking into buying a vacation home (budget up to $600k). We have two kids who are not yet in high school.

We are actually going to be out there in two weeks and have requesting several showings at Turnberry Place. The biggest reason we are leaning condo over a SFH was because of the concern regarding upkeep and safety when we are not in town (we are not going to ask our friends to look after our house as they have lives of their own). Has anyone had experience with owing a SFH as a vacation home from afar, and did you hire anyone to "just check on the place" every month or so, just to make sure it wasn't falling apart and hadn't been broken into? Also, any current or former residents of Turnberry are welcome to chime in with your impressions of its current state. Thanks in advance!

I never understood the point of a vacation home. I had one in Big Bear for a year. Only went there 3 times. Having to do massive amounts of yard work and winterize the property before leaving was always a hassle.

Rent a place when you visit. When you're ready to live here permanently, then you can consider buying.

Many people buy a vacation home that they plan on retiring to.

The housing market has been flat for 1 year now. There's no rush to buy something to only keep it empty and pay taxes and insurance on it.

Purchase when you're ready to live here and not a moment sooner.

Each of the 4 buildings have a separate feel to them. (Remember: there is Turnberry Place, and Turnberry Towers; they are two different developments).

Most people have/had a retirement plan spanning 30-50,yrs.

People do this all them time. Note it is not merely a SFH vacation home: if your primary residence is a SFH and you go on vacation anywhere, you have the issue of maintenance of your primary home.

There are people for hire who do indeed "look in on things." You can use technology as well. It isn't a big deal.
