Was walking in Peccole Ranch area tonight and there is a tree/shrub that has these peanut looking pods on them. They're much harder than peanut shells, but I took one of the pods to open and inside there were red colored "nuts" that looked like peanut internals when I cracked one of them open.

Anyone know what this particular tree/shrub is called?

Classical Mesquite pod is 1.5 to 2 inches long, tan and flat. My trees put out around a million a year. I collect a few thousand and send them east to those who reside there with instructions to throw a few on the hot end of a grill for Mesquite tasting steaks. They love it.

Mesquites have thorns. An easy check. .
