I used to visit Las Vegas quite a bit during the 70's and 80s. It was probably much safer back when the mob ran it just because they would not tolerate a bunch of petty crimes on the strip. Yea, they were whacking each other and blowing up cars but as a tourist you could feel pretty safe on the strip.

Yup.

Many years ago I worked with a guy who experienced Vegas in the 60s and 70s. He mentioned it was better in so many ways because the Mafia tolerated no crap. & People who "knew" were more afraid of ending up in the desert for good than getting locked up by the police.

Things changed obviously (globalism) but in a weird way the Mob kept Las Vegas "wholesome." America really is surreal.

It sure doesn't seem like tourists are worried about their safety with how many of them are coming. And back then the odds were a lot better for the players but people haven't stopped gambling either.

If one feels unsafe and wants to go to a nice controlled casino setting, go spend time at the biggest tribal casinos. They have their own security force which is known for being a little rough around the edge. Notice you don't hear much about petty theft on tribal casino properties too much, they don't tolerate it and have tons of money to try to make sure it doesn't occur.

Unruly behavior seems to spike when Californians come in for long weekends.

Indian gaming revenue has been decimated.

It certainly will be, as soon as a high-speed rail project goes into service. (When that'll be, is anyone's guess. If at all.)

Right now the Indian casino's are keeping the nail salons empty....

Or permanently move there?

I think that's more the case.

Sorry guys (and gals) in LV....We (California) aren't sending you our "best". Although, we're not exactly sending them per se, it's more like they're moving there out of necessity at this point.

What makes you think that? Nationally was a record year for tribal gaming. California was down a whopping 1%, guess that's decimation.

One video by a Youtuber and you know what's actually happening. So silly. I am on the strip fairly often and never feel unsafe. It's a CITY. Compared to small town America it probably seems scary but compared to any comparable city it's the same. Plus, no other city has as much going on as Vegas. It is truly an awesome place to live... at least for us.
