First off Hello All!
Im not gonna lie, Im kind of excited that I've found this site.

Second, before I ask my questions- Yes I've used the search and I'm still left with questions (altho I admit they may be rather general).

On with the show!

First (or third) let me offer some background on myself:

Im a Canadian university (college) graduate with a B.A. in Anthropology; My work experience is somewhat varied-- I worked as a bartender/server back home for good 7 years, I've done the office Admin thing, along with a successful stint (im just a fan of the word) in Retail Sales. Presently I'm a marketing swiss army knife for a Music Magazine/Website--- But I'm fairly certain I'm about to be laid off/let go.


That last part is where I need some help.
I'm in need of a job and a Visa-- But I'm really not certain where to look or what I should be applying for job wise (im aware that I qualify for the TN Nafta Visa)

I've heard suggestions of teaching-- Altho I do not have a teacher's degree, which I assume is needed to be an Aide, assistant teacher or substitute.
I would definitely consider resuming a bar/serving position- but Im well aware of how competitve that field is and I'm not really sure if any company would be willing to go through the visa process/issue for me
I've also considered approaching Anth professors at UNLV to see if they're in need of a research assistant- but again, the visa issue comes into consideration, and Im not entirely sure if they only hire UNLV students (which I am not, I graduated from McMaster in Ontario)

In truth, there are many jobs/positions I would be willing to perform (no double entendres intended), my interests are varied- from fashion, journalism, the health sector, oh and I might add- I act (studied improv at Second City) or at least I enjoy it.

So.. after what sounds almost like a personal ad (or poorly written cover letter), I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions of where a girl like me could find work; where I should be attempting to apply; and even if anyone thinks that I have a chance of pertaining the (seemingly) elusive Visa.


Oh yeah, and before anyone questions my desire to live in Vegas- My boyfriend lives there, as does my cousin and his wife, and his parents- who retired out in Summerlin.
I do essentially "live" in Henderson/Green Valley-- I just need to support myself and work in the city.

I would reach out to the UNLV Anthropology Dept (http://anthro-ets.unlv.edu/faculty-00.html - broken link) directly and see what they have to say. From what I could find this is the site for STATE OF NEVADA TEACHER CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS which may be worth a look. There is a teacher shortage here in Vegas and if you find the teacher salary thread you'll find that you'll make millions (unless our dollar sinks lower than Canada's).

I realize it has been a couple years since you posted this message, but i thought it would be worth my while to try to contact you anyway.
I am looking to move to LV to find a job. My brother and his wife live there, and I too am a recent Anthro major in Ontario. If you have any advice you can give me, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Hope everything worked out for you.
