Never in my wildest dreams did I expect to see so many pidgeons in Las Vegas. New York, Detroit, Philadelphia yes but not Las Vegas. I had one in my pool a couple of weeks ago. He/she couldn't fly of course because of wet wings so I managed to get him out by putting the pool broom by his feet which he climbed onto and then I was able to lift him out of the pool. Unfortunately my daughter left the sliding door open so the pidgeon decided to meader into my home. It took me over 10 minutes to get him out of the house. Thank goodness the cats didn't see him and he couldn't fly! Thankfully his wings dried and he was able to fly away.

Today I had two little birdies dead in the pool. I'm assuming they drowned somehow. Poor things.

Okay so heres the thing. Do I get a bird bath??? Will this keep them out of my pool or just entice more birds to hang out in my yard.

I'm sure you intellectual types are just dying to post to this question.

This is very common for animals to drown in swimming pools. Pigeons are basically rats with wings and they can adapt to very extreme conditions. In summerlin, I would see desert hare's and bark scorpions in the skimmer. I've seen pigeons, snakes, .... you name it!

bepperoo, I had a similar problem with pidgeons. A bird expert said the only way to get the pidgeons away from the pool was to use a pool cover. I never did that because my pool was oddly shaped. When I covered the part they could get to they stayed away. They were wreaking havic in my backyard. Made it unusable.

Cat...ideally one who patrols the property. Trap a wild one some where and feed it on the back porch. They will hang around anywhere for a free meal.

We had one for the last twelve years though it has now sold out and gone to living in airconditioned comfort with bathroom facilities and catered meals. An honorable retirement though she protected the yard for 14 or 15 years...

However there are still on-going patrols by the neighborhood cats and our big maine coon who will kill anything that he can get near. Note that spreading a little cat litter box results is almost as effective as having a couple on the prowl.

the real predatory feral is the best however. They even patrol roofs.

LIkely illegal in the city. Tell them to give the citiation to the cat...it is after all a free agent.

Oh sorry about the misspelling. I really thought it had a "d" in it. It didn't show up on my spell check.

Does anyone remember the episode of Seinfeld when George thought pigeons would move out of the way of his moving car, and he hit one, much to the disgust of his girlfriend as a big puff of feathers went everywhere?

I was driving past the bus stop at Owens and LV Blvd N. one day, where several people were waiting for the bus. There were several pigeons in the street because some of these people were feeding them. As God is my witness, I thought pigeons would fly to avoid a car. In my rear view mirror the back window was practically blotted out by feathers. But I could make out a look of horror on those people's faces I'll never forget.

Now I brake for pigeons...and old RE agents.

I apologize, too! Some of us have the grace to know how and do so!
