Hello,

I was wondering if anyone knew about governement incentives in Nevada, for the use of PV Solar cell modules?

It seems that solar could power many things in NV, hot water, many smaller household appliances etc.

Does anyone know why it's not in use that much?

You apparently haven't looked at a lot of roof tops. There are ugly black panels and coils on roofs all over town. I had one in the 1980s. It gave me lots more hot water but at the time it wasn't really worth the price. The things that did the most good were spraying insulation into the attic, and putting in a digital thermostat. BTW: Scotty's Castle in Death Valley, built in the 1920's and 30's, had them way back then. Don't know about govt incentives, but I think the power company has some.

If the incentives are like water district incentives they are too low. To replace our grass, very small area 386 sq ft, the district offers $1.50 per sq ft while the cost is $7.00 plus per sq ft.

Visit NVenergy site. I'm sure they will have incentives on their site. Solar is great long term, but very expensive initially. Good Luck.

Ironic how here in Germany which get's about 10% sunlight a year (ok maybe being a little over zealous), there being edge to edge panels on most houses. When i get my house in LV I plan on putting one in (this year or next)...eventually. Those guys are expensive.

Interesting. Tell us about how the economics run on your installation.

I have looked a couple of times but it keeps coming out a 10 or 12 year pay back even with tax incentives.

5 KW system on a 1600 sq foot home, two people two house tigers (cats but they made me type that). Pay back about 5 - 8 years as our electric bills are usualy under $250 a month prior to the project. Loan cost is nearly the same. Net metering back into the grid will also add to the payback.

Ran their calculator...All I need is $110,000. Do get $30K in rebates etc. But it still suggests that I make $100 per month or $1200 per year on the $80,000 investment. Gonna be a long time breaking even at that rate - 75 months or 6 years. And that includes no maintenance expense.

Needs another factor of two it sounds like.

I hope you will keep us all posted as you progress through the nuts and bolts of this project tom_c.

I have always 'heard' it takes years as olecapt mentioned to see anything other than a greener planet. I would love to be proven wrong about this.

Please give us weekly updates, if you can find the time. Thanks
