Just wondering what the people that live in Las Vegas have to say about living there.

It's hot for 3 months in the summer, but other than that the other 8-9 months weather is great. What are you looking for specifically?

I've wondered the same thing but more specifically about how locals feel about the safety of the area. I've probably visited Vegas about 50 times over the last 10 years and I've been outside the strip visiting Henderson, Summerlin, North LV, etc. and I've never felt unsafe or fearful - a few times I felt I had to be extra cautious or aware based on my surroundings but I've never fallen victim to any crime or felt that i was a target.

For those that spend months/years in the area my thoughts based on my travel experience is that crime would not be a huge issue but would be interested in getting others feedback ...

We moved here from Montana, we lived there for over 50 years we are 4th generation Montanan's . We would come here for comdex and fell in love with Vegas. We have lived here for 5 years, we go to the shows, there is hiking and biking and sking and lakes here.
And the weather is great, it's nicer here most of the time summer gets hot but you get aclimated and when it's hot like when it's cold you spend time in doors. If your lucky enough to have a pool then you will spend time outside in the summer.

Other wise you do outside activities in the early mornings or evenings after it has cooled off. I would recommend living here to anyone.

Its like living in a bubble. I miss the real world and I hope the home values go back up soon so I can sell and get the hell out gracefully. Trying to escape Las Vegas!

Default Don't be surprised!

You may not believe it, but you'll run into the same people where you come from, complaining about being bored to death, nothing to do.

And if you're one of the many minimum wage workers in this town, existing (not living) paycheck to paycheck, your options will be very limited come payday. Merely people-watching on the Strip for entertainment can get very old, very quickly.

Here's an answer I gave someone else a while back. It's a little long but there is a lot to Las Vegas, and the state. (Notice everyone that "a lot" is two words; "alot" is just wrong.)

Las Vegas is addictive because of lots of reasons. Everything is so convenient here for one thing. Everyone has free parking. Businesses are required to have a certain number of parking spots so you're not looking for a parking meter six blocks away; you'll usually park right in front of wherever you're going for free. Retail stores, convenience stores, gas stations, drug stores, restaurants of all kinds, dentists, doctors' offices, hotel/casinos, churches, schools, you name it, there are more than you need and they are everywhere. Even though we complain about traffic because there are too many cars, most of our streets are wide with at least four and usually six lanes, plus a turning lane. And we have left turn signals at intersections, and right turns allowed after stop at red lights. You can make u-turns unless specifically prohibited by a sign. Our highway speed limit away from town is 75MPH even on two lane roads. Casinos never close for any reason, almost all (if not all) mini marts are 24/7, as are lots of grocery stores and drug stores. We have more Starbucks here per capita than any other city, plus there are other brands of designer coffee shops. Breakfast is served 24 hours a day in many restaurants off the strip, and in all coffee shops in hotel/casinos. The weather, while not perfect is better than anywhere east of I-25, and as good as or better than anywhere between I-25 and the middle of California. Nobody sticks their nose in your business and nobody pays any attention to what you do as long as you aren't hurting anyone. Something like 83% of the state is public land controlled mainly by the Bureau of Land Management, so there are hardly any fences anywhere outside of town to keep you out. There are just miles and miles of wide open spaces to roam in if you want. The town is getting better looking all the time, and the scenery outside of town is spectacular. You can snow ski and water ski in the same day. You can drive up to Mt. Charleston with your pickup truck, load it with snow, and hurry back to town before it melts even when it is 90 degrees in town. You can hike up a nearly 12,000 foot mountain peak that is just minutes away from town, or join world class rock climbers on the cliffs of Red Rock Canyon. Or you can see 900 year old Indian petroglyphs, petrified logs, and other fantastic artifacts at The Valley of Fire, also minutes away. We have the largest man-made lake in the western hemisphere just 30 miles away, created by one of the seven engineering wonders of the world, Hoover Dam. You can see the world's best entertainers every night of the week at dozens of locations, or you might just as easily see them standing in line with you at Albertson's or eating at the next table in a restaurant. Or a big name star might just live next door to you. There are huge production shows like you've probably never seen before all over town. You can hike, hunt, fish, bike, run, play, dance, drink, swim, or just chill at a zillion locations nearby. If you just bought a drink, or the casino gave you a free one, and everyone wants to leave and go to another joint, no problem. Don't waste it or gulp it down, you can take it with you even if you're walking down the street. We don't have a problem with drinking in public. Is that supposed to corrupt other people or something? We're not that anal. We have world class shopping at several malls on and off the Strip. We have an abundance of car dealers and I'd bet we have more Hummers running around here than anywhere in the country. I doubt you'd see as many limos anywhere as you do here. You can get married 24/7 with little effort (although the dee-vorce takes 6 weeks). I could go on and on. In other words, Las Vegas is the last bastion of freedom in this country and it has so much to offer people get spoiled very fast and therefore addicted.

This is why I intend to retire in Vegas.
