I was offered a job working at a hotel in Las Vegas, and I am not sure if I should take it or not.

I live in Phoenix right now, and from what I have seen Las Vegas seems to be pretty similiar, except much more diverse in certain aspects.

Can anyone in the hospitality industry give me an idea of the pay for positions like front desk? I was offered $14/hr but I am not sure how that compares to other positions.

Lastly, how is the cost of living?

Have you cleared up your arrest warrant yet? You will not get any job here until you do. As far as the cost of living, it is similar, although slightly higher here. The gas is more expensive too.

Yeah, I just paid off the rest of the warrant today.

So if I am working on the strip, what areas should I look at for living in? Looking to spend around $800/month on rent if I take the job, can that get me a decent 1bd in a nice area?

Ok, that is good to hear. For $800, you will be able to find a nice 1 br apartment. As far as where, it depends how far off the strip you are willing to go. In general, the closer to the strip, the worse the area. So, if you are willing to commute a little bit, you will have a lot more options. With $14 an hour, you will be able to live quite well. I only make $9.50 an hour, and do just fine. My advice would be to come here during the week, and check out some apartments.

If I take the job my fiance will be coming with me, so that will help with income as well, she wants to maybe find a job in a casino, she is good looking so I told her to be a coctail waitress but I am sure there is 1,000 other girls looking to do the same thing.

I have until January to accept the job offer, the position isn't open yet but someone is leaving in January and they will hold the position for me, it's an old boss from another hotel I used to work at.

Nice! So how did you get offered a job there if you don't mind me asking? I am planning to move there next year..and I'm thinking about trying to get a job at one of the casinos in Atlantic City (Like Harrahs, or Caesars or Ballys) and try and transfer over.. lol I wonder if that would work.

I work at a call center now and hate my life LOL

if you paid off your warrant, does that mean it is not a felony, misdemeanor, or even on your record.

Misdemeanor, for disorderly conduct, got into a verbal argument outside a bar when someone harassed my fiance.

I was offered the job by a former boss he transfered to a hotel/casino on the strip and said they have somoene leaving in January and he said he would hold the position for me if I wanted it. Would also open the door to management in the future.
