Our son had it. The doctor said it was H1N1 and wrote him out of school for Wed,Thurs, and Fri. He said with Sat & Sun to follow, that he should be fine to return to school on Mon, and he was. Our daughter didn't catch it, nore did my wife or I catch it. That was in late August and it's still infecting folks here today as it passes around. One day in late August 482 students were out sick, and our one and only county highschool only has about 800 students 9'th through 12'th grade. My wife and I have never had a flu shot and never caught the flu, but we know alot of folks that run off to the doc to get a shot each year that ended up catchin' the flu. Rather odd isn't it

The seasonal flu vaccine is based on an inactivated virus and you cannot catch the flu from the vaccine. If a person catches the flu it was probably coincidental.

Many offices do not even screen specifically for the H1N1 and will give the patient a presumptive diagnosis of the Swine flu if the area is endemic. If they do screen, it is quite often an influenzae screen not specific for H1N1. They will send off for H1N1 test in certain circumstances depending on the severity of the situation or if it might change care.

It seems to me that Las Vegas is at higher risk for H1N1 since there is an inordinately high influx of visitors. I would strongly consider getting the H1N1 vaccine.

All 3 of my children had positive H1N1 tests....all got sick on a Friday....the 13 and 7 year old were back in school the following Tues. My 15 year old, who has asthma, contracted bacterial pneumonia so she missed the whole week of school. Besides having A LOT of homework to make up they have all recovered 100% and much quicker than I would have anticipated with all the media hype about this thing.
