That's a great advertisment for Fremont Street, thank-you, spread the word!

I love being around real people, lower class people. Twice a year I dump my penny collections into the still-existing penny slots (not electronic) at the Western on lower Fremont. Nice, real, friendly people.

Now if they'd just re-open my old hang-out, the Ukelele, on Bonanza & LV Blvd where I could rub shoulders with the homeless drinkers!

We only go at least once a month. Only because our Thai place is on the strip, but no casinos. We will drive down the strip once and a while for our 4 year old. She loves the lights.

Lived here 3 months now been to the strip once. 2nd month here we went to the MGM for the kids to see the Lions, ate lunch at the Rainforest Cafe ($10 coupon) and walked over and toured the M&M store. It's nice that parking is free.

Even on a Sunday afternoon (approx. 1PM) there was a drunk (drugged) twenty something falling out of her clothes in the MGM lobby. My DH made the most of it, telling me "bonus, a truly free show." It was pathetic and interesting to explain to my 4 year old.

We thought we would do monthly trips to the kid friendly sites on the strip, but we are re-evaluting that plan. Vegas is not for children. I really would like them to see the Blue Man Group. Right now Blue Man is running a special where kids are free with an adult paid ticket. No shows earlier than 7 PM though. I'm just not sure I'm ready to expose my kids to Vegas nightlife and language yet. How do we get from the parking lot to the theater without the smoke, porn and drunks?

We only plan (as long as the military cooperates with DH retirement) on living here 3 years so we can't wait to long for them to experience some of the good PG stuff like Lion King.

So I'm curious why locals don't go to the strip? I figure if I move there I would go probably once or twice a month, only cause I like to get dressed up and I figure I can get away with it down there. I guess it probably gets old pretty quick is that why? Aren't there just so many things going on, new shows, comedy, restaurants? And about Fremont Street, i was under the impression it was dirty and crime-ridden. enlighten me!

We've been here since July and only hit The Strip when friends and family come to town.

A co-worker of mine hasn't been down there in two years. He lives up North and hangs out at the Cannery.

When I brought my mother out here the first time, and how overwhelmed she was at seeing the Strip, she was under the impression that I ran down there every week or every night of the week. I didn't comment, but prior to her arrival I hadn't been down there in over a year.

I was just down there Thursday night to look at the progress of City Center, hadn't been down there in 6 months.

And the rest of you?
Seriously, I'm trying to remember the last time I was 'on the strip!' I think the last time I actually drove down the strip was 2 years ago - my daughter and 2 of her friends in the back seat and my son in the front with me, windows down and Buttons by the ***** Cat Dolls thumping on the radio! LOL Yup, I was driving and we passed around the video camera. The girls were rocking in the back seat and people were laughing and smiling on the side walk as we cruised along. LOL We only go down there to act like tourists.

Other than that, I stay as far away from the strip as possible. I hate the traffic. It is a parking lot most of the time. I have to attend meetings and other events occasionally for work. Even when family and friends come in, I take the back roads around the strip so I don't have to get on LVB. It's nice to have the option I guess, but I prefer to get where I'm going and dealing with as few idiots as possible.

The strip is expensive. Shows run you a minimum of $60/ticket, that's with discounts. Average show price is $100. Restaurants are expensive too. Its no different than any other tourist trap. The traffic is a hassle.

You can find good food and entertainment off strip on a regular basis. There are some very nice "local" casinos so that if you live here you can stay away from the strip. They offer the music, comedy, gambling, movie theaters, restaurants, etc...

I am on the strip day in and day out.. Nothing wrong with it.. The ambiance is great, Shows are great.. 60 bucks for a concert or show is pretty darn good. If you know how to look for the deals you will never pay full price for anything on the strip. Gambling on the strip is for suckers. High minimum limits so you can lose your money faster.. I can play Pai Gow for 3 hours on a hundred bucks on Fremont, and usually come out ahead.. I have yet to lose on slot machines north of Circus Circus..

Back when it was all we had most people I knew went there sometimes every day. Now for me it's maybe six times a year. I can't remember the last time I was on Fremont. I don't know if we get jaded or if our interests change.

The only thing Fremont street has going for it is the food and table limits are lower. However, the reason is quite apparent when you compare the two.
I'm like Tij, I like hanging out with regular people. I like the Golden Gate, best winning place for me in all of Las Vegas. I skip the food, the table games too. The music could be greatly improved there, but it's the price you pay for actually bringing home money and not losing like most of the rest of LV.

Although I only get down to Fremont street a few times a year. The only time I get down to the strip anymore is when friends or relatives come to town. Which is rarely. Otherwise I just go to Aliante station. A 5 minute drive. Ive also walked there. Versus the strip, a 45 minute drive.
