As for the Bro? he knows everything and if he ever does leave the US he can explain it to the Border guard he'll have to deal with on his return..
And I'm hazarding a guess that you'd love to be a fly on the wall when that happens.

My mother applied to renew her status after 2 years of marriage, but she got renewed one only for one year. Does anyone know why ? Is it new rules or something ? She got it few days ago.

The one thing I didn't see on the links is how much advance notice one would typically get for the interview. There is no interview. Just file the I-90 electronically and pay the fee and mail the pictures to the service center handling your area. Eventually, the new card comes in the mail.

Its called an I-193 and costs $585 if returning to the US with an expired GC.

There is no interview for renewal of ten year card. Apply with I-90, you will be send a notice to get your biometrics, I.e. pictures and fingerprints. Once that's done, you should get your card in the mail in few months.

Please tell your friends, you've to show taxes to get a greencard and if you fail to renew on time you will have to do everything over again, the whole immigration process.
