Hello

I was wondering if there was a passenger train that ran between Allentown PA and NYC.

If so, which one and can anyone give my their opinions on it?

Thanks

Default Bus

I only know of a bus the Trans-bridge out of Easton area.
I've heard of no train. I don't know where the closest one would be if you drove into NJ. Anyone else know?

Trenton N.J. is the closest I know about. Beiber Bus also runs a schedule to N.Y. You can get it and Trans Bridge in allentown.

Hello. Nope, train service in the Lehigh Valley is nonexistent. You will need to take a bus - TransBridge offers regular commuting stops from Allentown, which usually take a little under 2 hours. Quite a few people actually do make the trip daily to work in NYC, so it's doable.

There is a study being done to reconnect Allentown with NYC thru High Bridge, N.J. This was the former route of this train service. I think the former end of line was Phillipsdale? How long ago did train service end between NYC and the Lehigh Valley. Is there service to Philly?

I've heard about this study also. There was an article in the Morning Call about it just a few days ago.

Plan could bring commuter rail to Lehigh Valley in five years

In terms of service to Philly, I think SEPTA comes as far north as Doylestown/Lansdale which I guess is roughly 30 min or so from the valley.

I believe the SEPTA stop on 309 is Colmar, just north of Montgomeryville. I took the train from Lansdale to Philly this summer and it was an easy and enjoyable ride. From where I live in Southern Lehigh County, it's about 40 minutes to Lansdale and about 30 minutes to Colmar. To get to NYC we often take the Bieber bus from Hellertown - no stops and it goes right to Port Authority in less then an hour and a half.

Here's a link to a site about the trains that used to go through the area - Lehigh Valley Railroad

They've been promising us a line from Scranton to NYC forever, so don't get your hopes up on that one! It would be nice though!

It was talked about in scranton/poconos since the 80's and it will never happen. The cost outweights the amount of revenue/passengers. Especially since this area has stopped growing. The morning call reported last year that the influx has residents has basically slowed to a crawl. The population will surely fall being the economy is most likely to be horrible for a few years. Add the economy with the housing bubble bursting, lowering prices already 20-30% and will continue another 60% minimum and then prices are going to stay stagnant a couple years after that happens with minimal gains (a normal market). You won't see the insanity of price gains (1st time ever this large here's the proofhttp://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2006/08/26/weekinreview/27leon_graph2.large.gif ) ever in the next couple centuries. This was the worst bubble our spend, spend, spend, borrow, borrow, borrow government will let happen.
Prices will rise somewhere annually around .5% -2% at best. That's a long term investment and what should happen in our economy. Houses are like cars that get old and need major repair. Look at what these foolish people bought at excessive prices during this bubble, 200k for twins built in the 1800's and a majority of homes around here are that old.
