What's interesting about that is that TJ's main competition in the upscale organic market, Whole Foods, is also right on that corner.

I could see TJ's getting a lot of the Whole Foods business; TJ's tends to be a much better value.

It's just a shame the PA stores don't have alcohol. The wine and beer at TJ's in other states is good and an amazing value.

Isn't Whole foods down 309 more, past that big shopping center with Target and some box stores? I think the TJ's is going to be on the corner closer to Costco. I called one of the other TJ's stores and they said to expect an opening around November 15th. woo hoo!

Oops, no you're right it is farther down. I was confusing Upper State Road, where Costco's is, with Lower State Road. Oh, well 2.5 miles apart, I'll take that. Maybe within 10 years they will both move up to Lehigh County.

Boo~ this place is still an hour away from where we live!!

Will take us just as long to get to this one as it does to get to the ones in NJ.

I don't blame you for the confusion. That stretch of 309 from the Walmart in Chalfont down to 63 has pretty much every chain store ever created.

Whole Foods is in the same shopping center with the AMC movie theater and I believe a Staples. Going south down 309, it's on your right just before you get to 63. Going south, it's the last shopping center on 309 before it branches off and becomes a freeway.

I've visited the Whole Foods before and wasn't very impressed. They had many of the same foods as Costco, Wegmans and some similar to Trader Joe's but their prices overall seemed higher. I'll go out of my way for both Costco and TJ's but I can't think of anything that I saw/bought at Whole Foods that would warrant driving a distance.

The appeal of Whole Foods to me can be summed up in two words: Free samples.

Of course, I never actually buy anything there.

Did anyone read the retail watch column in today's Morning Call? The writer gave the link for suggesting new TJ's locations. He mentioned a place he thought would be good up in Whitehall. MacArthur road corridor seeing changes -- themorningcall.com Wonder if he reads our forum?!

Default Whole Foods and TJ's

I moved up here from Delaware County a few months ago, so I was spoiled by the proximity of both TJ's in Media and Whole Foods in Wynnewood.

Whole Foods is not expensive with their 365 Brand - their milk, butter and things like ketchup and mustard and basmati rice are actually pretty cheap! They also have Ito En green tea, which is hard to find.

I work in Conshohocken and there is a huge Whole Foods/Food Court opening up here in the next few months in Plymouth Meeting. Can't wait as I will finally have a natural/organic staple from which to choose from. Giant on 309 is okay for those quick weekly fixes but I am so excited to get a Whole Foods for those once-a-month shopping trips!

I SAW the Montgomeryville TJ's on Monday. It's about 23 miles south of my house and I'm just a mile or so from the Bucks county line so a pretty good drive for those of you north of me. I got an e-mail from them a couple of days ago after I e-mailed them a note thanking them for putting a store up in Montgomeryville and asking them for an opening date. They said they didn't know when it would open. My guess is they will do what they can to open before Thanksgiving. Oh, and I also mentioned that it would be even better if they put a store in 30 miles farther north.

The shopping center reminded me of the Promenade shops because it had a Chico's, Talbots and some more upscale chain stores - all new. It really is right across the street from Whole Foods. If I wasn't in a hurry to get to Costco, I would have stopped in.
