Thanks for the suggestions. I was looking for spots actually IN the city if possible. Today we went to Elkhorn Creek in Georgetown across from the Japanese Gardens and that was nice and not too far.

Not sure how I missed this thread
It's Hickman Creek on the eastern edge of Veterans Park. There is a small dam that's about 5 foot high just above the bridge for the walking trail. There is some good fishing above the dam in that 5 foot deep water - bluegill and bullhead catfish are abundant. I saw a carp sunning the other day that had to be 2 FEET long - I'm actually going to fish for carp there tomorrow.
In the washout area right below the dam there is a 3 feet deep hole that has lots of bluegill and bullheads. Further down in the swallow water I've caught creek chubs to 8 inches long.
To read the deeper water you go through the treeline just off the paved path that is beside the Rock Bridge Dr parking lot. Dirt trees line the creek for several miles. Please note that there is tons of poison ivy in this area, so long pants are a necessity.
I think the rule of thumb for Trout stamps is you need one to be specifically fishing for trout - if you accidentally hook one and release it it's legal
