I'll be moving to London in the next few weeks and I'd like some location suggestions. My requirements are:
- Within 20-25 minutes distance (by subway or walking) from Notting Hill Gate.
- Rent up to £600/month (including bills).
- Ideally a single bedroom studio but I'm willing to consider a shared flat (especially if it comes with private bath) if studios are too expensive.
- Close to a subway station.
- Relatively safe and nice area.
I would look in West London, it's the part of London I know least about but as a North, East and then Southern Londoner have alwasy found West London (inclduing Notthing Hill) a pain to get to. But it gets cheaper the furtehr out you live so makes sense to look more West, along the central or district lines...parts of Ealing I think are ok, queens park and west hampstead are cool. Look along the tube line and do your research from there

Which neighbourhoods should I focus on ?

I'd say either look at West London (Ealing for example) or South West as the District line connects Wimbledon to Edgware Road via Notting Hill. However, with your budget, you're definitely looking at a flatshare and it probably won't come with an ensuite.
Unfortunately it is highly unlikely you'll find a studio for 600 excluding bills, nevermind including, anywhere 'nice' (although there are plenty less 'nice' areas that are still pretty safe). However, good websites for looking for flats include:
Good luck! You should be able to find a pretty decent room in a shared house or flat - just make sure you like the people and it will be great!
