The free parking in these stations is problematic for me b/c I get on a train at 830am. 9/10 times I can't find a spot and end up driving into the city. Is there another station someone can recommend I goto?

Baldwin. Park on Brookside across from Freeport HS.
I used to take the 8:30 train sometimes and found spots on that street, past the lot.

...or to either Bellmore or Merrick, where it's probably safe to assume the OP is coming from.

Check the smaller lots off of Smith Street and Bedford in Bellmore - I believe you can park in these, but not until after 8AM or 9AM. I've never seen them full, so you should be OK over there.
