It is very nice to have neighborhoods covered by trees -- no argument there. I wish more places were. I had a neighbor move in here and tell everyone how much he loved all the trees in the neighborhood. Within a couple of weeks the tree crew came to his house and removed almost all of his.

If the thread were Commack v Dix Hills, I would give Dix Hills the thumbs up for the fact that the homeowners value their trees. Seeing as it's Commack v Smithtown, I give Smithtown the thumbs up as it has more areas which are treed.

but if you want neighborhoods covered in trees/woods move out east for half the price, and out there are ACTUAL Pine Barrens.

The pine barrens are composed primarily of pitch pine -- they aren't very tall and are not what people think of when they discuss tree covered neighborhoods. They have done well in the poor sandy soil in which they grow, and the regrowth following the fires 16 years ago has been amazing to watch.
