Went to see the Jones Beach fireworks last night from Wantagh Park. Big mistake. I knew that traffic jams at the beach after the show are pretty bad, but at Wantagh Park it was worse.
Took well over an hour to exit the park. One lane, no traffic control, it was definitely grin and bear it. Can't imagine ever doing it again.
I was stuck in the same mess but left before the fireworks ended. Still took 40 minutes to get out. Doesn't help when some people just feel entitled to drive on the wrong side of the road to cut into the single exit lane from the parking lots.
Leaving Jones beach after a concert is a PIA cant imagine how much worse it is to leave after the fireworks. Your best option would have been to pull out a few chairs and hang out by your car until the traffic dies down.

Left Steely Dan convert last week with no issues. WE were parked in in the other field, 4 I think.
Crowd was super calm and nice. No gun shots, no burnouts in the parking lot, lots of pot smell yet everyone was brotherly.
I made it to the car and drove back with no issues.
