Those who live or lived in Port Jeff Station/Terryville/Selden..which way do you like to go to Nassau County? commute hours
I used to do that commute and found Northern State to be faster ..not quite so much on the way home though when it got to 347..sometime I'd take the 495 service rd past the motor pkwy exit home.
I usually do what I can to avoid 347. However, I live a bit east of PJ Station. Not much further, but 347 from Northern Pkwy. can really try one's patience. What works well for me is to take 495 to 83N. If your in PJ Station, 83 can get you to 112 or Old Town Rd.
Unless there is an accident, you'll almost always do better LIE/N Ocean than NSP to 347. Our neighbor commutes from Rocky Point to Syosset and she almost always takes the LIE.
If nothing else, you can use the HOV lane if you can pick up a car-pooler.
With the construction going on by route by 111 right now, I'd steer clear of 347. Also, even if it takes the same time, all the lights on 347 add to stress and increase your chances of getting in an accident. I'd go Nicholls to the LIE.
It depends on the time of day, on weedays for work, I leave from PJ at 6am and take 347 to Rt 110. On the way home, I take the LIE to exit 62.
On the weekends or pretty much any other time, I take Nicholls south the the LIE and head west from there.
