I have a chance to get into the LIRR (with a possible connection, as I have been told is usually needed).

Is there anyone here who works there and I could ask some questions too? I have alot of specific questions, but there is no need to post them here because I am not looking for opinions, I am looking for answers.

Please either reply here or im me

Thanks.

I dont work for them, but I know a few who do currently, and a few who've retired. It is a VERY good job. As with many other govt. jobs, the key is just getting your foot in the door. Take the job, whatever it may be, and you're golden. They like to promote and create movement from within. Even the guys who clean the cars overnight are making serious bank, have a TON of downtime, and get great benefits. Good luck in whichever route you choose.

Good Luck!! It is a great job.

Unlike other jobs where you have to justify your performance, or lack there of the LIRR asks none of that. They can be late, rude, surly or just plain crazy and when people complain about you NOTHING HAPPENS!!!!

Not to mention when it's time to retire you go out on disability. Mo money, Mo money, mo money.

Listen good luck really.

It is not the same railroad it used to be... I used to work for the LIRR. Things are buckling down and you CANT get away with the things that you used to. Upper management is calling the shots and everything is watched and GPS'd. So if you are looking to get into the traditional boys club expecting to sit back and relax like it used to be.... keep looking. Ive only been gone a year from the LIRR and know it was a good job - if you worked at it and kept your nose clean. As far as getting in based on "knowing someone", that is not what it used to be either. so......Good Luck in your pursuit - as I am still looking for myself - again.
