Does anyone know anything about the condos in Saint James and Stony Brook? I think they are called Setauket Knolls. I do know that they are for seniors.

Don't know the ones in St James. My friend rents out one in Stony Brook on Hallock Rd. There are two different condo complexes on Oxhead Rd across from Murphy JHS. I've been in the older ones on Oxhead. Nice amount of space.

Is it true that senior or 55+ condos residents pay lower taxes because they don't pay school taxes? My BIL told me that when my Mom moved to one in Suffolk Co. 10 yrs ago.
My younger sister lived with my mom
to help take care of her and when my Mom passed away, the condo org.
allowed my sister to stay even though she was in her 40's.

Yup, they have the money and can often pay cash.

No this is not true. They are cheaper because condos are usually smaller. Also they do not have yards so less taxable property. The thing with condos is what you lack in school taxes is made up for in hoa or maintenance fees.

Not all condo developments are 55+ I am in blue ridge condos in Medford and we have no age restrictions. A lot of seniors do live here but we have no such restrictions.

I have a 2 bedroom condo that is 740 square feet. I only pay $1950 in taxes but have maintenance fees of $340 a month (includes water, sewers, and basic cable).

If a 55+ condo community pays the same taxes, what would be the benefit of moving to one? No noisy kids?
