If it does hit LI, get ready for another stellar performance by LIPA. You know, LIPA, whose slogan is (or should be) Ordinary Electric at Extraordinary Prices, with side of Poor Service.
I have several LED flashlights, bought a 6 pack of them a few months ago. I don't have a generator but I can always go to my in-laws because they have 2. I may have to bring my mom to stay by me because she is recovering from a broken tibia and she won't be able to get around without lights on. She lives alone and I'll worry about her. From what the news stations are saying if it does hit us direct it could be like Hurricane Gloria. I hope it's not though.I am not paranoid about this but it's good to be prepared. We did not loose power during Irene but my in-laws were without power for 6 days. I should cook all the meat I have in my freezer which is not too much. I have that parmalat milk which I keep on hand in case of storms like this.
Just saw the 5 PM Hurricane Sandy track. Looks bad for LI. Winds will start Monday at 2PM and continue into Tuesday @ >50 MPH. Waves will be here long before that. Do yourselves a favor and find the video, as it approaches LI it turns toward the West!
Checked generator today going to pick up extra case or two of water and fill another tank of propane and watch as weatherpeople always give us the wrong info and still keep there jobs
