Just buy lots of jerry jugs... pack your trunk

Jersey has a couple of things going for it, including local distilleries and low(er) gas taxes.

Most clean diesel vehicles are averaging 50+ miles to the gallon and don't cost any extra to build compared to a hybrid which is about $7-10,000 more than its gasoline equivalent.
Premium on diesel engines and fuel, esp. here in NY, is still pretty high. Out west, where there's less stop-n-go, diesel is an excellent fuel and costs less than regular gas.

Diesel technology has really improved from those 1800 mile service intervals and some turbo diesels are just as quick as gas engines.

Doesn't NY have a gas tax that most other states do not?

Most states do have a gas tax, but as usual, NY tops the list with the highest tax rate.

The idea was to place a tax on fuel so the revenue can be used to build and maintain infrastructure. So much for that idea in NY, with it's crumbling infrastructure. What do our politicians do with all of that money?

Yes pay $20 in tolls to get to NJ to save $.50. Makes sense!

I think you missed it. Not diesel fuel, CLEAN diesel. There is a major difference.

and this is exactly why we know this is a friggin' money scam. it does NOT cost that much more to truck the gasoline over the bridges.

Not missed, that was what I was referring to with the diesel technology comment. TDI, Bluetec and other technologies are making diesel a true alternative to gas and even hybrid technology.

Sure it's a scam... and our political leadership, here in NY, is in on the scam. At the very least, they allow it to continue.
