Unless you dont have an OBGYN of your own and plan on using the one on call at the hospital what difference those the hospital make in a regular delivery?
Honestly, after watching a few times I could easily deliver a kid myself. I am the first generation in my family to be born in a hospital. My Mom was one of five kids, my Dad one of eight kids and heck my Grandmother on my Moms side was one of 12 kids. All born on the farm in houses no indoor plumbing or even central heat.
Is having a baby even something that needs a doctor? My last one the doctor was not available so they sent a midwife, my wife was so far along, no amino or pain meds, the midwife just yanked it out and I cut the cord.

I had a regular delivery. Our baby needed a surgery the next day (something not detected on the sonograms). If I hadn't been at Winthrop, he would have been transferred to another hospital and admitted into the pediatric wing versus NICU, even at 1 day old.
You just never know what can happen, even with a regular delivery.

If I did surgery the person would end up looking like Herman Munster or Frankentein.
I think regular delivery is easy. But there is complication when baby is breech, sunny side up, cord wrap around neck....those probably need a bit more professional. My cousin gave birth to her son, and somehow her placenta didn't came out right(something like that) and tear off one of the main blood vessel....lost too much blood and they have to remove her ovary. So, giving birth at home is never something I want to do.
