Applebee's does a good job with college age kids because they have good late night specials. My younger brother goes with his friends a lot because its cheap. I think after 10pm it is 50% off apps and 2-for-1 beers. I went with him once after a concert and it was packed at 11pm. Food still sucked.
You couldn't pay me to eat at these places.
I was a waiter at both Fridays and Boulder Creek when I was younger. If you guys saw what went on in the kitchen you would never eat there again. Pretty nasty stuff, but it was a fun job.
You hear this from every person who has ever worked in almost any restaurant. Anytime you have kids or derelicts making your food, there's bound to be some clown messing around with it.
As for these chains, I don't mind Fridays, and Ruby Tuesday is ok, Chilis and Applebees are terrible, and most dinners on LI are crap also for anyting except burgers.
You say kids an derelicts, but it was the restaurant managers who did the expediting that would eat French fries and mushrooms off the plates as they gave them to the waiter to serve. It was at all levels.

the upside is that they don't charge extra on holidays!
People go to those places out of comfort. They know exactly what they are getting. I could never understand waiting an hour for a table at Applebee's, etc - just doesn't make sense to me. But I guess in a lot of families with 2 working parents no one wants to cook on a weekend night and they want to have some time together.
I worked at Friendly's and logged many, many hours per week and never say anything crazy going on. The management at those places makes a huge difference, though.
We did eat more than our weight in ice cream every week, though, LOL.

So is anyone really going to get sick because someone eats a french fry off of their plate? People are ridiculous with their prissiness when it comes to other people serving them, meanwhile most people are washing thier dishes and counter tops at home with filthy sponges.

Would you let a waiter stick their finger in your mouth? I wouldn't, but that's basically what's happening when someone picks food off of your plate. I hate when people touch my food. My mother in law once stuck her nose in my plate to smell my food...She's lucky she is still standing.
Keep your hands off of my food.
As for yor sponge argument, that is my own doing. If I want to clean my sponge I can. People should eat off my plate without me knowing.
we hit up chili's once a month because they send out 'kids eat free' coupons online... so it makes it worth it to go there. not a fan of the others listed.
I don't see the appeal. Meanwhile, where my folks are down south, these national chain places are lined up for miles along the main road. Come 4:30 and those early birds flock to them. It's crazy.
