I haven't seen aluminum installed in ages. I replaced the regular vinyl on the front with vinyl cedar impressions and left the rest as is since it was in good shape. Next time around I will spring to have the whole house redone with real cedar shakes.
james Hardie was a company founded in Australia as such why we like it all kidding aside we built a house in Sydney Australia with the fiber cement and havent looked back since. we will be siding our house on LI with it too.
I installed Prodigy by Alside in '09. I selected it because it comes in longer than standard lengths and only 2 panels high, which makes for smaller vertical seams in less spots. The other feature is that it is insulation backed which makes it stiffer than regular vinyl siding.
Hardie - 0 doubt... cement based products. Long lasting, low maintenance, looks great, and protects your house very well. If I didn't go full brick I would have gone with that product. Vinyl is crap.
