there is nothing to see on long island? are you nuts? we have/had miles and miles of beaches, parks, vineyards, famous eatieries. long island has alot to offer than any other place in America.
Yea between walmart and tanger outlets how is it not like talk of the universe.
Not to mention the OP is coming from San Francisco. Have you ever been to Northern CA? He is not going to be impressed with our beaches and restaurants and lighthouses. The only thing that we can offer that would be unique to him is some local history.
And no where else in the county has that?... Stop being so myopic and go west of the hudson for once.
BTW...whats to see in massapequa?,,,the big indian?

Exactly to both, but SF and LI are similar in some respects, nice places to go eat and see, but nothing comparing to NYC for some history and unique places. Brooklyn and Manhattan will keep you busy enough. Take the Pizza Tour 1 afternoon, eat at Kean's, go to Museums, typical stuff, etc.

there is plenty to see and do, but without a car it is almost impossible. For example, there is the carriage house musuem and the historical village of stony brook that would be an absolutely lovely day to spend. He could take the train to Stony brook from penn station and then take taxis around. Port Jefferson also has a really nice waterfront/shopping area. Many areas are like that - freeport and port washington come to mind.
If the OP is without a car and staying in Brooklyn, there is lots to do and see there - brooklyn museum and botanical garden come to mind, along with Coney Island.
