Seems like a lot of people on this forum are done with NY. So...are you leaving?? Or just venting, and staying here forever?? Me, I'm done...I've been a LI kid for almost 50 years, born & raised here. But I cant do it anymore. So it's time for me to pack my wife & kids up and leave for SC. We will be out of here within the year. What about the rest of you...what's your plan???? If you moved away...where did you go???
1% property tax
A lot of transplants, so it's not like we're in the "deep south" (as much as certain posters say it is... )
Warm weather
We're 20 minutes from a really heavily populated area (like Nassau County), but where we are is still pretty populated. Another 20 minutes away is Atlanta if we ever get the itch for city sights.
People are friendly
The area is heavily invested in jobs for my industry (City of Alpharetta Website || HOME)
One thing I don't like is the amount of subdivisions.
I have spoken to my husband several times about packing up and leaving. Since we dont have kids (proud to be DINKS), living in Nassau County is quite comfortable for us now, but if we were parents - forget it. We'd be living paycheck to paycheck. Growing up in Brooklyn/Queens, I used to regard Long Island as a place for the upper middle class, mostly. I remember my parents trying to find a house to buy in the mid 90s around Floral Park/NHP but the taxes were just too high, so they settled for south Queens instead. I am licensed to practice law in NY and Washington, DC so I do have options for leaving but my husband doesnt want to leave behind his secure job and civil service pension w/ a school district. I also am not too crazy about taking another state bar exam...So I guess we are stuck.

People on here just like to complain. You need to just read all these complaints as a yada, yada, yada and then move on. If they were serious they would pack up and leave already not sitting around fantasizing it on a website. lol.

OK, if you're leaving LI/NY where are you going, and when?

Wow...now I'm agreeing with you..., actions speak louder than words. When the opportunity presented itself to us... We took it like a prison break!
This is a big country with lots of great places to live... Feel free to explore, you just might find happiness and finally stop complaining.

...and a month or two more of winter.
I love Maine between Memorial Da and the end of September...other than that, no thanks.
