I don't hate the poor but I hate the people that have been poor for generations and have no desire to better themselves. Just look at the projects. They act like the government is there to help them and take care of them. Some of those people have been there for generations pumping out children and create more poor people for the rest of the world to take care of.
I'm not opposed to low income housing but you should not put them in a neighborhood where the inhabitants pay high taxes. It's not fair to them.
GC has a broad tax range for a variety of reasons. They also fall under several school districts. They are in Franklin Square and Uniondale so the taxes can be around $10k on a $700k home. The taxes on homes in the FS district are higher than the homes that are in the Uniondale district.
The days of the commercial industry subsidizing taxes are over.
The homes in GC are in the Franklin Square and Uniondale school districts. That's going to affect taxes. The other poster said that taxes in GC are lower than average, which I don't believe is true. Taxes in GC range.
Can't have it both ways. Want lower taxes? "Affordable", walkable downtowns?! At some point you have to fight the local zoning boards who are stocked with govt hack cronies beholden to Nimby interests. The faux hysterical outrage is kind of funny. Most of these "affordable" developments end up as tony apartments and condos with 1bdrm rents starting at $1800/mo. Already a bunch of these buildings up and down Stewart Ave in Garden City and doesn't appear to have shaken the "unique suburban character" at all. Let's call this what it is, Garden City's fear of encroachment from Hempstead and Uniondale. Much ado about not much. The judge's ruling may allow some multi-unit development, 90% of which will be completely "un"-affordable and 10% will be relatively affordable and will be on GC's less desirable borders.
