We're a family (couple + 2 kids) living in Brooklyn at the moment and looking to move next summer.
We both work in Manhattan so commute is super important for us. We're not native Americans and hence prefer a mixed population which will hopefully include Europeans, Asians and others. Our budget is around 800-900k for a house. Taxes are ok since we have good salaries.
We consider both Great Neck and PW (open for other ideas as well).
Happy to hear some thoughts, mainly with regards to:
- Working moms population - I read a lot about the snobbish north shore - does it mean most moms are stay at home moms that are free to come to school whenever needed and my kids will be the exceptions with no volunteering parents and a nanny picking them up after school?
- International community - I understand Greak Neck is mostly Asians. Is that correct? how is PW in terms of population?
- Schools (elementary) - I read Great Neck is considered better than PW. Any thoughts about that?
Great Neck North High School is mostly Jewish and Iranian. Great Neck South High School is mostly Asian and Indian.
Port Washington is more mixed with significant populations of Italian/Irish Catholics, Jews, Asians, and Indians.

Wasn't familiar with this site and it's super helpful!
Thanks!
Port Washington is still predominantly caucasian so not sure if it has the "mix" you are looking for. Still, it l is a reasonable commute relatively speaking and you can live in an area that has more of a village vibe than Great Neck.
